The Criminal Organisations Management Invoice was scheduled to be debated in WA Parliament this afternoon, after it was tabled in November.
Opposition Leader Mark McGowan told reporters external parliament his get together would help the invoice, which the govt says will target outlaw bikie gangs and other organised crime, but not before amending it.
"We'll assistance them, but we will seek out to amend them to make them stack up in accordance with the high court rulings, the two in South Australia and NSW," Mr McGowan said.
"There are some possible difficulties there, but we will be supporting them."
Similar laws protecting against declared gang members from associating with every other have currently be rejected by higher courts in NSW and South Australia on constitutional grounds.
WA Premier Colin Barnett explained he was "sure" his party's laws would not face higher court challenges domestically.
"This is very strong laws ... to give the police extra powers and to crack down on outlaw bikie gangs," the premier stated.
"This is directed at drug sellers, coercion, racketeering and the like."
Mr Barnett explained he did not imagine the legislation would be employed to goal other groups, an problem which civil liberties proponents have elevated in the past.
As it currently stands, the legislation will give a maximum five-yr jail term for any member of an outlaw team who associates with yet another member.
Gang members will also encounter harsher penalties than other members of the community for a range of other offences.
